I Survived West Coast Boot Camp

Really… I did survive! For the past six weeks I have been working out with the help of the boot camp trainers and eating right thanks to nutritionist Jon Weber and I am about to see the results.

My fellow boot campers and I arrive at our last session with anticipation and anxiety. e all feel and look a bit different but have we lost weight and inches?

The dreaded measuring tape comes out. Not unlike the first time, I am surprisingly unnerved by it. Before boot camp I didn’t want to confront the real me. Now I am anxious to see just how much I have improved.

I volunteer to be measured first. Bicep, waist, hips, chest… one by one each area of my body measured before I started on this journey was measured again and the results recorded in my journal.

Next onto the scale where I slipped my shoes off and stepped on.

Finally, it was time for the two-minute sit-up, two-minute push-up and times mile tests where we all tried to beat the numbers we completed the first day of class.

The Results:
With testing complete, it was time to review the results. Excitedly I opened my journal and couldn’t not have been happier.

I have lost 8 inches, the areas of greatest improvements being my waist and hips where I lost a combined 4 1/2 inches!

I lost 1 1/2 pounds, which I am told is great considering I have replaced fat with muscle which weights more.

My percentage of body lost is 3.1%!

In the two-minute push-up I improved from 24 push-ups to 52 push-ups!

In the two-minute sit-up test I improved from 56 to 62!

In the timed mile, I improved from 10:38 to 7:10!

I read then re-read my results. Was this possible? Had I really done what I set out to do? In fact I had! I have changed my body, and in turn my life. I look better and I feel amazing! I am confident, strong, and passionate about what got me here. I am a true believer in boot camp. In fact, it has continued to be a part of my life. I enrolled in another session and am starting my 4th week today. I cant imagine my life without it. I love it and I want more of it (a phrase Adrian often chants throughout our workouts)!

If you have been looking for something to challenge and change your body, look no further! West Coast Boot Camp is the way to go. Don’t let another day go by without calling. The sooner you start, the sooner you will see a new, improved you. Let the transformation begin! You too can survive boot camp.

I never served in the Military, but was very curious to find out what Military boot camp might be like.  So when my girlfriend found out about WCBC and signed up for a six week session, I had to try it too. (Plus, what guy want’s his gal to be tougher and more ripped then he is?!!) By the end of the session people told me my physique changed noticeably, that I looked more cut and chiseled. Actually, I was more impressed with how I felt than how I looked. I had the energy of someone 10 to 15 years younger. Was it hard? You bet. But, just showing up is 90% of the battle. Get there and get results, it’s that simple. You are in it together with a group of people whose muscles are burning just as intensely as yours are. There is something about being in a group, led by an expert, that makes you try very, very, hard. No matter how hard a workout was, within an hour I felt tremendous. The trainers are upbeat and funny, but they make sure you are getting your money’s worth by pushing you to the most you can do safely. You build camaraderie, confidence, and core strength. If exercise reduces stress, WCBC flattens it. Ultimately, while I was paying for improving my physical stamina and well-being, I was blown away be how much my mental stamina and well-being improved, and that was free! I almost forgot, the biggest revelation was using the food journal. If you want your outside to be ripped, make sure your inside is ripped with the proper foods, and gobs of water!

Adrian is very knowledgeable about fitness and nutrition. But, what set’s him apart is his desire to see each person get the most out of the class. He gets the best out of you because he has already envisioned the best in you. Everything about the guy is based on hard work, determination, and making the process fun.

I am a business owner and I spend most of the day in the office, sitting in front of the computer. I have always been overweight, simply because I don't have the motivation to exercise. I have always wanted to look good, but I have always delayed making the first step to getting in shape. As time past I finally decided to do something about my weight. I signed up at the gym in 2005 and I exercised regularly for 3 months. After the 3rd month I stopped going to the gym because I did not see any results from my workout. I guess, I didn't push myself to the max during my workouts, because my motivation level was pretty low.

In April of 2006, I met Adrian at the La Canada Chamber business mixer. I spoke to him about my weight situation, and he told me that he can help me to control my weight. He gave me his card and he told me to come in for a free one on one personal training session. A few days later I stopped by his studio, and we had the one on one training. I really enjoyed working out with Adrian because he made it a fun experience for me. I began to visit Adrian for more training sessions and later that month I decided to join the 6 week outdoor boot camp. (let me tell you that was the best thing I have ever done for myself)

The first two weeks at the boot camp was a rough start for me. The last thing I wanted to do is wake up really early in the morning and start exercising. As time past by it wasn't that bad, since I started to get used to the routine. During the 6 weeks we did a mixture of cardio exercises and weight training.

I didn't expect to have any results by joining the boot camp but boy was I wrong. Prior to joining the boot camp I weighed in at 268 pounds and after 6 weeks of the boot camp I lost 18.5 pounds and went from 30.9% body fat to 22.7%! I just couldn't believe it!

Thanks Adrian and West Coast Boot Camp Staff!!

My name is Jim Matherly. I am 46 years old and when I met Adrian I weighted almost 270 lbs. I was encouraged by a friend of mine that was a current patron to contact him for help with my weight and over all poor condition. I had recently visited the doctor and was told that I was pre-diabetic, had borderline high blood pressure, and needed to lose at least 30 lbs.

I started boot camp with Adrian in October, 2005 and it was a difficult transition to get used to a supervised training program. I knew that I had been trying on my own for several years to loose the weight with marginal results and I always ended up where I had started. I knew that I needed to be pushed outside my own comfort zone in order to get the results that I needed.

That is exactly what I got from West Coast Boot Camp. I only had to show up in the morning and they would take care of the rest. At first, I didn't even follow that food plan but after all of the work that I was doing, I wanted too. I started to see results right away. Over the next 6 months, I lost 45 lbs and went from 31% body fat to 17%. My friends could not believe the change with me and many joined because of the results that they saw that I had accomplished. I am in better shape that I was in college over 20 years ago.

It is now 1 year later and I have kept all of the weight off. I also started more weight lifting and have increased my muscle mass in addition to keeping the fat off. I don't know where I would be without Adrian. His personal interest in my results were more that I could ever expect from any fitness program. He was excited in my success and continued to encourage me through this process. He is more than a trainer to his clients. He is a true friend that has my best interest in mind. He cares about his clients on a personal level.

My quality of life is so much better than it was 1 year ago. I am able to go on hikes, participate in sports, sleep better and enjoy life so much more without the burden of 45 extra pounds. I am so grateful to a good friend that encouraged me to go see Adrian and try out West Coast Boot Camp.

Sincerely,
Jim Matherly
